Nsfas Online Application dates for 2024

The official opening date for NSFAS online application for the 2024-2025 academic year web portal, falls in December 2023 to January 31 2024. Applicants are advised to apply within this specified timeframe with all the accepted needed documents.

Do NOT apply if you meet the listed below:

  • Foreign student (NOT a South African citizen)
  • Over R350 000 is made up of all household income each year.
  • Previously completed a tertiary degree,
  • If you have already applied and received funding

Who qualifies for NSFAS funding?

  • Every South African citizen is eligible to participate in the NSFAS program.
  • Each recipient of an SASSA award is given money by the NSFAS.
  • Students whose total annual household incomes do not exceed R350 000
  • Individuals with disabilities No household’s total income may be greater than R600,000.
  • Applicants whose household income is less than R122 000 annually and who began their studies prior to 2018

Who does not qualify for NSFAS

  • Students who have finish a previous qualification.
  • Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
  • Students who have received funding.

NSFAS Funding: Who does the NSFAS support?

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme offers financial support to students at Tvet Colleges and Universities (NSFAS). The listed below are the areas the support covers.

University in South Africa

  1. Cover Accommodation
    According to the university’s actual costs (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
  2. Cover Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500  per annum
  3. Cover’s  Living allowance R15, 000  per annum
  4. Cover’s Book allowances are R5200 per annum
  5. Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

Tvet College in South Africa

  1. Cover accommodation in an urban area for R24,000 per annum
  2. Cover accommodation in a peri-urban area for R18,900 per annum
  3. Cover accommodation in a rural area for R15,750 per annum
  4. Cover Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350  per annum
  5. Cover Transport R7000 per annum
  6. Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

Nsfas Application Requirements

Before applying, students should ensure that they meet the following admission criteria:

  • of South African descent
  • Request a SASSA grant.
  • To be eligible to enroll in a TVET college or public university, the total annual household income should not exceed R350,000.
  • Completed grades 9 and 10 to qualify for financial assistance to attend a TVET College, enrolled as an undergraduate student, and the family income is below R122,000 per year.
  • Completed high school to qualify for financial aid at the university; Enrolled in a National Certificate Vocational/Program at a public TVET College; Enrolled for the first time in an undergraduate program at a public university.

Nsfas Online Application: Supporting Documents needed for Applying Nsfas

Students are required to provide the following documents in clear and verified copies. Failure to submit the necessary documentation will result in the rejection of the application:

    • Proof of identity, either a paper or an ID card (electronic and verified copies).
    • Full birth certificate (if an ID document or ID card is unavailable) along with a duplicate of the parents’ or guardians’ identity (certified electronic copies).
    • Certified digital copies of the death certificates for your parents or legal guardians, if applicable.
    • Recent paystubs, employment letters, and pension advice (not older than 3 months) – Please exclude SASSA slips, as SASSA is deducted from household income (verified digital reproductions).
    • Contact details, including a phone number or email address, to facilitate communication from NSFAS during the application process and to update you on your application’s status.
    • A completed and signed NSFAS Consent Form in PDF from your guardians.
    • If you have a disability, you must fill out and submit the NSFAS Disability Annexure A in .pdf format.
    • If you are orphaned, you need to complete and return the NSFAS Declaration Form in .pdf format to either an NYDA or Isibindi Center office. It should be signed by either an Isibindi Child Youth Care Worker or a social worker from the Department of Social Development.

How to Apply Nsfas Online 

Applicants have two options for applying for financial aid through NSFAS.

Method 1 [When applying Online]

    • Go to www.nsfas.org.za
    • Click on “myNSFAS” tab
    • Click on “Register
    • Check the box to authorize NSFAS to verify your information.
    • Enter your ID number exactly as it appears on your South African Identity Document (ID).
    • Input your complete name and surname, matching the details on your ID.
    • Provide your current email address.
    • Confirm your email address
    • Type in your cellphone number
    • Create a password
    • Confirm password
    • Upload your ID Copy
    • Click on register
    • An OTP will be sent to the email and cell number you provided (please note that this OTP expires after 24 hours).
    • Enter the OTP and click “submit.”
    • Your re-registration is now complete.

Method 2 [When you’re at the NYDA Centre]

  • Visit a nearby NYDA location to complete an application.
  • An NYDA staff member will guide you through the application process and provide you with an application form to fill out.
  • Complete the application form using capital letters and a black pen, and sign it where required.
  • Submit your application along with the required supporting documents (as specified below).
  • Ensure that the documents you provide are recent, not older than three months, have both your signatures on the front, and are up-to-date.
  • You will receive a bar-coded receipt card by mail.
